Healthcare personnel is at higher risk of workplace violence than the average U.S. employee. This webinar will focus on ways to reduce the frequency of aggressive behavior and techniques to diffuse the behavior should it occur. It will define what types of actions are considered aggressive, such as verbal assaults, physical attacks, and threats of violence, and address their impact on recipients and witnesses. Prevention strategies will be outlined, including environmental design, organizational policies, and team and individual practices. The session will describe effective post-event responses and the value of record-keeping and program evaluation. At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to take concrete actions to increase their own level of safety, as well as the safety of all those in the healthcare setting.
