Understanding how anesthesia coding and billing are assigned will allow coders to ensure all appropriate revenue is captured. This session will differentiate anesthesia procedures including modifiers, concurrency, and medical direction based on who is performing the service. You will learn of interactions between anesthesiologist and CRNA throughout anesthesia procedures regarding medical direction, medical supervision, and personally performed. Attendees will gain clarification of different anesthesia modifiers, calculate concurrency, and how to assign the correct modifiers for each provider. We will also discuss chart documentation necessary to support anesthesia services related to billing. Finally, we will discuss the reimbursement models for inpatient and outpatient facilities and professional fees.

Kristen conducts operational assessments, attorney/client privileged investigations, coding reviews, and provider/coder education. Her coding expertise includes diagnostic and interventional radiology, pathology, primary care, radiation oncology, and anesthesia.
